A special ANZAC dawn service - by Lili Bowman
The ANZAC Day dawn service was really important to me as my dad served in East Timor.
Dennis started the ceremony by telling us to place one hand on the rail of the boat while looking out into the ocean. He then proceeded to tell a story of how the ANZAC’s were looking out to the beach of Gallipoli, getting ready to face danger. They were scared, fearful and full of pride seeing their comrades depart the boat.
Just by imagining what it was like I would never be able to picture myself in that situation.
Dennis asked me to read the poem Flanders Field which I was so honoured in doing. The ceremony was very touching, especially when it got announced that Dennis won the ANZAC of the year award. There is no one more deserving.
Lest We Forget
